Thanks to your donations, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit staff room received a much-needed update to its décor, appliances, facilities, seating and storage.

A huge thank you to Lauren Nuttall, family and friends for their significant contribution towards this upgrade in memory of Ruben who gained his angel wings far too soon.

As you will read, this has really improved the wellbeing of staff by providing a calm and relaxing environment when they need to recharge!

“The improved staff room is brilliant and makes a big difference to everyone during their breaks. There’s more seating for staff, bigger fridges, room for bags on the shelves which means much for floor space! We now even have plenty of cutlery and mugs!  Everyone is very grateful.”Ellie Ramsden, PICU Band 5 Staff Nurse

Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to renovate the PICU staff room

“Thank you very much for the funds raised for our staff room. Critical Care is very different to the wards in LCH as patients are nursed 1:1. During a 12-hour shift a nurse may only leave a cubicle for their allocated breaks. Staff can’t always be relieved outside of break times due to the acuity of the unit. This makes the staff room not only a place to eat meals but also for relaxation and time away from the intense environment. Updating the staff room has created a much calmer space to relax. The bag storage is amazing and was a health and safety risk before!

“A few months ago, I witnessed a member of staff eating beans on toast with a spoon. However funny this seemed at the time, hunting around for cutlery (that we never used to have!) adds to the stress of what may already be a highly stressful day. It’s the little things that make such a difference to our shifts. Thank you!”Rachel Boyes, PICU Senior Sister

“The transformation in the staff room is amazing! It feels so much tidier and organised with a lot more room to relax. With things more organised and with less clutter things flow better when we’re making food and drink. A huge thank you to everyone involved in improving our environment for that vital downtime that we depend on during our shifts at work!”Sian, Paediatric Critical Care Consultant

“The improvements to the staff room have made break times so much more enjoyable! The new bag racks are class compared to having them on the floor – staff room feels twice as big. The new toasters are great and the greatest thing of all is forks galore!! Tea trolley upgrade also amazing!”Jack Fereday, PICU Band 5 Staff Nurse

“I have found the PICU staff room so much more pleasant to use since the refurbishment. It really helps the staff when it is busy on the unit to have a space that allows us to get a break. The donation is much appreciated, and I have seen the positive it has made on our staff. Big thanks to CHSF supporters!”Dr Mark Winton, Locum Consultant Paediatric Intensivist – Leeds PICU
