We are happy to announce the return of Cardiac Cafes in 2024, and what a wonderful start it has been!

Our recent gathering in Bradford marked the launch of an exciting new year, filled with hope, support, and new connections…

Family Support and Youth Worker Lu said:

“In central Bradford, families impacted by congenital heart conditions came together for a morning filled with friendship and understanding. It was a beautiful sight to witness families meeting, sharing stories, and forging bonds.

“Two incredible adult heart warriors attended, sharing their inspiring journeys that resonated deeply with everyone present. Their willingness to open up and share their experiences added an invaluable sense of community and peer support to the event.

“One of the cardiac nurse specialists was on hand to provide families with invaluable resources and support. Watching conversations unfold and seeing families connect with each other and with the medical team was truly heart-warming.

“But it wasn’t just about conversation; we made sure to create a welcoming environment for everyone.

“Children had a blast with a box of sensory toys and colouring sheets, while our team engaged with them, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring that every attendee, regardless of age or ability, felt right at home.

‘Cardiac Cafe’ events are a fab way for our Family Support team and members of the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit to meet families and patients from all across our region, a little closer to home.

“The Cardiac Cafe in Bradford was also provided a unique opportunity for families to connect with members of the CHSF team. From our dedicated family services team to our passionate fundraisers, families had the chance to strengthen their connections with the entire charity team, further solidifying the sense of community we strive to cultivate.

“Looking ahead, we have an exciting line-up of Cardiac Cafes planned, each tailored to the specific needs of our diverse families.

“One upcoming event, in particular, will focus on young people aged 13-15 and their parents, marking the beginning of their transition journey.

“This initiative aims to provide essential guidance and support, ensuring that no family feels alone on their journey.

“We can’t wait for another year of Cardiac Cafes, filled with support, understanding, and connection.
