Heart warrior Luna has CHD and ‘loves a challenge’ and ‘will walk for miles’. This inspired her grandad Paul to take on a mammoth walking challenge to raise funds for their local heart unit, alongside other members of Luna’s family.
Luna’s mum, Jordan, decided that as a New Year’s Resolution she wanted to climb Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK and she asked her stepdad, Paul to join her in fundraising for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
The idea escalated and as Paul talked about their fundraising idea to family and friends, the walking group quickly grew to six, with the final team being – Paul, Jamie, Clare, Michael, Linda and Jack.
The team successfully climbed to the formidable Scottish summit on the 8th May this year.
Heart warrior Luna loves walking, which inspired her mum and grandad to embark on this walking fundraising challenge
“Little Luna is a joy. She laughs, she dances, she sings and is the kindest most considering of other people, child I have ever met. Always encouraging others to be part of the fun is part of her spirit, but soon she is going to, have her ‘heart mended’. She loves a challenge and will walk for miles, so to support the place that will mend her heart we are going to do her challenge and walk Ben Nevis.” — team JustGiving page
Luna’s Grandad Paul said:
Luna, granddaughter of Clare and I, is under the care of Leeds Hospital and this was how we found out about Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.”
“Luna is eight now and will need surgery in the near future ‘to mend her heart.’ as she puts it to me. We looked at what CHSF do and fell in love with the wonderful things that are done for the children on the heart unit and their families.”
“We hoped to raise £500 for the charity and can’t believe how kind and generous our friends and family have been, they have been amazing!”
In total the team have raised a lifesaving £4,000 – EIGHT times what they set out to initially raise.
Community Fundraiser, Lauren said:
“It’s been fantastic keeping in touch with Paul along this fundraising journey. From what started off as just his daughter, to this fab team of 6! They have smashed their original fundraising target and CHSF could not be more thankful.”
A huge thank you to this incredible team and all the family and friends who chose to get behind them and make a donation to our cause.
We are so very grateful!
