As we head into a busy summer for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, it’s a great moment to reflect on the incredible connections we’ve been building – and the exciting opportunities ahead.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending the Somerville Heart Foundation’s ‘Heart Together’ event alongside our Family & Youth Support Worker Lu, Katie Bear and colleagues from across the Congenital Cardiac Unit. We heard from Geraldine and John, who are now in their 70’s and 80’s, talking about their experiences of growing up with congenital heart disease and as group we reflected on the medical advancements over this time – amazing.
Our Ambassadors are out and about with us this month too – a huge thanks for their support.
I’m especially looking forward to attending the Young Professionals Awards with Tommy Frank, who will be sharing his journey of growing up with congenital heart disease and his achievements as a professional boxer.
Another one of our Ambassadors, Saira Ali, is hosting an Eid Dinner for business leaders across the region (and further a field!) this month too. Saira has invited myself and Heart Surgeon Osama Jaber to join her as her guests. This is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of CHD and build our networks of businesses who can help and support us.
Behind the scenes, our team has been taking time to relax and recharge our energy for a busy Summer! We headed into Leeds for “Pilates & Lattes”. Thanks to Leeds Wellbeing Week for leading us in the ‘flow’
And there’s so much more to look forward to. We’re taking a day trip to Scarborough on 20th August to run our Cardiac Café on the beach! Get in touch with Sarah and Lu if you you’d like to join us or fill in the form here.
As always, thank you for being part of our journey – whether you’re supporting, fundraising or helping us spread the word. Everything we do is only possible because of you!
