Here’s a round-up of some of the brilliant newspaper and TV coverage we received around this year’s Wear Red Day.
York Press
York Press produced two amazing pieces about baby Jude, who has been in hospital for 7 months since birth and was just about to receive his next open heart surgery.
Mum Rebecca, from Selby, talked candidly about his journey so far and how Jude’s big sister Eve had written to local school Longman’s Primary to take part in Wear Red Day!
- The online version of the article is here.
- They also did a follow-up piece containing amazing pictures of Eve and the school taking part in Wear Red Day – absolutely fantastic! Catch up here.
Harrogate Advertiser
Harrogate Advertiser produced a lovely video of young George and mum Jane Hinkins, who discussed his “superhero heart” and how the Heart Unit has been instrumental in his care and treatment.
George has born with only half a heart, had his first surgery at just two days old, another at 10 months and is due to have another between his 4th and 5th birthdays.
Yorkshire Evening Post
The Yorkshire Evening Post produced a great double-page spread about young patient Jaxon Heard.
- You can read Jaxon’s breathtaking story in our Real Stories area online, and we’re sure the interview with mum Jade will have resonated with lots of readers.
- You can download a screengrab of the Yorkshire Evening Post feature here.
- Jaxon’s face is also helping us promote our charity through a partnership with B&M Waste Management.
Leeds Live
Mum Natalie is a huge advocate of ours following Isabel’s heart surgery at just 3 months old.
Barnsley Chronicle
Barnsley Chronicle published a piece about local girl Tanesha Ives, who was born with complete atrioventricular septal defect.
As thanks for the care she received, her friends and teachers at Joseph Locke Primary took part in Wear Red Day.
Selby Times
And Selby Times produced a great little piece about Brayton Playgroup inspired to wear red by Adam local patient Adam Worker. Big thanks to mum Sara for organising this!
Made In Leeds
Finally, Made In Leeds produced a great feature from Ward 51 on the importance of Wear Red Day, featuring baby Noah – who has been at hospital since birth – and his mum Leanne, plus our CEO Sharon Coyle.
Leanne talked very passionately about home-from-home Eckersley House – which your donations help to fund – and the care Noah has received from the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit.
Thank you!
A huge thanks to everyone who has helped out with raising awareness for congenital heart disease and Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
That includes everyone who has taken part in fundraising over the years – it’s because of you that the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit continues its fabulous work in this medical field and keeps us one step ahead of the disease.
