Make it a December to remember, by taking on a Winter Wellbeing challenge for CHSF!
Winter can affect people’s mental health negatively from lack of sunlight, illness and isolation. That’s why we’ve devised a set of ‘Winter Warmers’ to give you that snuggly fundraising glow this Winter.
Here are some ideas to combat the winter blues and raise money for a cause you care about:
- Walk 17,000 steps for every baby, child and adult who comes through the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit every year. Walking in the fresh air is a natural mood booster!
- Have a winter ‘crafternoon’ alone or with friends. Try things like crocheting, sewing, origami, wreath-making…
- Swim 350 miles in a month for every heart surgery that takes place in Leeds Congenital Heart Unit in a year – we’ll let you decide indoor pool or out! 🥶
- Read 13 books in December for the 13 babies born a day with CHD in the UK.
- Squat 125 times every day, for the 1 in 125 babies born with a heart condition worldwide
- Got another idea? Sign up and let us know!
Freezing Wheelie Bin Dip
“We did a month-long ‘Wheelie Bin Cold Dip Challenge’. This involved us dipping into garden wheelie bins each day that were filled with water – it was January, so this water was icy cold! We started at two minutes and increased the time by 15 seconds each day. By the end of the challenge we were sitting in the wheelie bin for near 10 minutes!
“My daughter Lauren had open heart surgery in the first few days of her life. The support given to us, like being able to stay nearby in Parent Accommodation, will never be forgotten. I’ve always wanted to say ‘thank you’ in some way for everything that was done for us.” — heart dad Matthew Greenwood
Raise £150 this Winter
We ask all who wish to take on a Winter Wellbeing Challenge for CHSF to raise £150 in sponsorship.
This amount could pay for five nights in CHSF Parent Accommodation at Leeds Children’s Hospital, so families members who live far away have somewhere to stay when their child is receiving care. Thank you.
