RAMADAN 2022
“The world-class facilities at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit have been supported by CHSF since 1988 but sadly, the fact remains that poorly children with critical heart conditions are still born every day in our region.”
“In fact, almost 1 in 100 babies are born with a heart defect, so please help us to continue saving the lives of young heart patients like Sawda by sending a charitable donation over Ramadan.”
Sharon Milner, CEO of CHSF
Sawda’s story
Sawda is now six years old and lives in Bradford. She was born with a very complicated heart condition and has already had several open heart surgeries in order to save her life.
Mum Attika bravely told us about Sawda’s journey with congenital heart disease so far and how she has been helped by CHSF along the way.
DID YOU KNOW?
More than 200 Muslim babies and children from across Yorkshire were treated for CHD in Leeds last year.
CHD nurses for local hospitals
Your donations this Ramadan could help pay for specialist CHD nurses based at local hospitals all around Yorkshire, to support patients with congenital heart disease, and their families.
These dedicated nurses will help local families manage the patients long-term condition close to their own homes, from diagnosis right through to their transition to adult services.
RAMADAN FAQ's
When is Ramadan 2022?
This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on April 2 and end at the beginning of May. The end of the holy month will be followed by Eid-al-Fitr.
The exact dates of Ramadan change every year because the Islamic calendar is based on the cycles of the Moon. Because the Islamic calendar is based around the lunar cycle, the Holy month of Ramadan rotates by approximately ten days each year.
Why should I support CHSF this Ramadan?
1 in 100 babies are born with a heart defect in the UK and last year alone over 200 Muslim families from Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire were treated at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit. Save lives this Ramadan.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Healthy adult Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan from dawn until dusk. Therefore this includes abstaining from drinking, eating, immoral acts and anger. Other acts of worship such as prayer, reading the Quran and charity are also encouraged during the holy month.
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
“Every act of kindness is charity.”
Challenge yourself to complete one act of kindness every day for the holy month of Ramadan using our Kindness Calendar.
